Massey Maulers
Old Bastards
These
are the retired, worn out, been there done that "good bastards" of the
Maulers who may or may not pull on the boots every so often, but whose
presence at the game is always welcome.
Graham "Legs" McKenzie (241)-
Legs happens to be one of the old bastards in the team, and at his
undisclosed age (60 this year 2009, I believe) is one of the fittest men on
the field. Plays lock but runs about the field like an
openside flanker due to his massive calf muscles!! Also a damn
fine co-manager who maintains a tight ship. Has decided to retire
in 2011 after many years of loyal and well managed service to the
Maulers, enjoy your golf with Mona, Legs.
Favourite meal: Anything my beautiful wife cooks me
Favourite Song: Legs (She's got legs) - ZZ Top
Favourite movie: Chariots of Fire
David "Soro" Sorenson
- Cannot be pesuaded to pull on his boots but has taken up the role of
team spokesman at the aftermatch function where his compassion,
sensitivity and good sense prevails to deliver awe inspiring, dynamic
and ........ f#@%king BULLSHIT!! Currently sight unseen in 2008, supporting his boys no doubt.
Favourite meal: Red meat
Favourite Song: Like a Virgin - Madonna
Favourite movie: Debbie Does Dallas
Patrick "Koozer" Johnson
- A legendary player and manager of the Massey Maulers, balls the size
of grapefruit, has to waddle around like a cowboy just off his horse.
Also, never put Koozer and Crusher together in the showers,
you'll have nightmares!!
Favourite meal:Mountain Oysters
Favourite Song: Great Balls of Fire - Jerry Lee Lewis
Favourite movie: Gone with the Wind
Terry "Eski" O'Shea
- Bald as a badger, he plays midfield and can glide through a gap like
an ice cube on a slippery slope (imagine the
slope boys, its soft, warm
and cuddly)! Played league in his younger years and has decided
that the old legs are more useful on the rugby field, but the call of
the "bullrush" has not escaped him. Has jumped the ditch to
reside amongst the skippies, home of NRL and "prawns on the barby, mate"
Favourite meal: Pie with a lion red
Favourite Song: Simply the Best - Tina Turner
Favourite movie: Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
Stephen "The Bus" Campbell
- Like a Stagecoach bus during rushhour traffic on a Friday afternoon,
this is one bus that stops for nobody. Playing at second five, he
bulldozes through tackles with his shitlocker in the lead, and only his
heels in view as you lie in his (enormous) wake. Has also made the escape to Aussie and the golden beaches.
Favourite meal: Sardines
Favourite Song: Bus Stop - The Hollies
Favourite movie: Speed
Grant "Auntie" Davis
- You know those great old aunties when you were a teen, at a
party she'll be praising you, placing you up on a pedestal then
she would flop out those great big bouncy tits and embarass you in
front of your mates - well that's how you would feel on the field if
this old bastard stepped you with his crocky old knees, beware. A retiree from 2008.
Favourite meal: Scones and a cup of tea
Favourite Song: Blue Smoke - Pixie Williams
Favourite movie: Driving Miss Daisy
Taegy "TG" Jeon
- Rumour has it that TG jumped ship from a Korean driftnetter on
arrival in New Zealand, and due to being continually on the run
from the authorities, has the speed of a slick southern bluefin tuna
chasing down a skipjack, so has been placed out on the wing to do the
damage. Not sure where he is now, believe the New Zealand Immigration may have caught up and deported him!!
Favourite meal: Here puppy, puppy.....nah vegetarian, tofu's good
Favourite Song: Six months in a leaky boat - Split Enz
Favourite movie: The Perfect Storm
Gary "Scraffy" Scrafton (95)-
Another member of the team that should return to the forward pack
like his fellow halfback Tama, although they don't seem to want him
back due to his flailing arms and legs when jumping in the lineout.
Unlike Tama, he can actually run, even if it looks like he's got
a carrot stuck up his butt!! No games in 2010 as he supported his son
with first 15 rugby, suspect he may be back to score his centurion mug
though!!
Favourite meal: Rabbit Stew, mmmmmm...
Favourite Song: Oma Rapiti - my kindergarten teacher, she was a stunner!!
Favourite movie: Forrest Gump
Rob "Braveheart" Wallace-
Aye, he's a bonny wee lad is our Robbie, with a swirl of his skirt, a
shake of his sporran and the wheese of his gummy lungs, he heeds
the call of his fellow tribesman to repel the invading hordes - without
baring his ugly arse thank god!! Another who didn't play 2009,
probably due to a life threatening bunch of stings he received!!
Favourite meal: Haggis
Favourite Song: Maggie May - Rod Stewart
Favourite movie: Braveheart, gotta support my great, great Grandfather
Tama "I'm not a prop" Walters (178) - Forever espousing the virtues of his passing game (he doesn't run so passing is all he's got), we
all wish he would join the front row where his bulk can be put to
better use, rather than halfback where his slow and inaccurate
service gives the inside backs the chills. Also, who gave him
control of the subs this year...there's gonna be dramas!! Is
fighting the good fight against the Big C, kia kaha bigfella.
Favourite meal: Pork bones
Favourite Song: King of the Road (trailer for sale or rent)- Roger Miller
Favourite movie: Once Were Warriors
Adrian "Crusher" Hill
- Rumour has it that he crushes more girls hearts than opposition
forwards on the field, if so, he should be a shrunken, hollowed out
hulk, yet he isn't....so lets crush that little rumour, plus the one
that says its because the dick of the day is modelled on his that
he has success with the female sex, I mean the DOD is only average,
isn't it? Again, another who didn't make the 2009 season with health issues, hope things are coming right Crusher.
Favourite meal: Chocolates and Champagne
Favourite Song: My Dingaling - Chuck Berry
Favourite movie: Caligula
Cameron "Mr Plod" Liddell (53) -
Former policeman and now a pig farmer, go figure...whatever you do,
don't get nabbed by this man, his headlocks are infamous. He
was introduced to the front row after a playing career in the backs,
and he likes it!!! Watch out for his speed, especially if you try
to steal the ball, his earlier training will kick in. No games in 2010, pig farming keeping the big fella occupied
Favourite meal: Pork, of course
Favourite Song: The Dream Police - Cheap Trick
Favourite movie: Police Academy
Andrew "Flick" Beattie (270) - He's got a nice collection of red tonka toy fire engines, but don't tease him as
there's gotta be a streak of ginge in there because he is one angry
man, don't light him up or he'll douse your flame with his blanket
coverage. Retired in 2010, will miss his aftermatch pipe smoke.
Favourite meal: BBQ, anything you can light a fire under.
Favourite Song: I'm a little fire engine - me Mum
Favourite movie: The Towering Inferno
Peter "Hori" Young (216) -
Another old dog with a sly grin permanently plastered on his face, I
think it could be due to the viagra kicking in, but it certainly helps
to keep Hori hard on the field. The other co-manager that somehow
keeps the Maulers in line. Hung up his boots and manager role and
concentrating on training those surflifesavers, good onya Hori!
Favourite meal: Oysters
Favourite Song: Can't Get Enough Of Your Love Babe - Barry White
Favourite movie: Boogie Nights
Brett "Oots" Iti (60) -
Brett likes to make those cameo appearances at halfback during the
season, looking like he has the skills to have been able to play at the
highest professional levels in Aeotearoa, pushing the first five further
and further back with his torpedo passes, then he sends a backpass
that the spectators have a better chance of picking up than his
teammates, that shows he's as useless as the rest of us!!! No games in 2010, whereabouts unknown
Favourite meal: Beluga caviar and Bolinger
Favourite Song: Money - Pink Floyd
Favourite movie: Jerry Maguire
Rob "Flipper" Cooney (61) -
With a nickname like flipper, you would expect to see this man
surfing and skimming in the backline, and once upon a time he did, but
time has taken it's toll and he is more like a manatee as he now plays
off the back of the scrum, but at least he hasn't graduated to the
hippos in the front row! No games in 2010, but seen on the sideline
Favourite meal: Tuna
Favourite Song: Heroes - David Bowie
Favourite movie: Free Willy
Phil "Piripi" London (30)
- "A gin and tonic before play and tally ho chaps, I'm up for a game",
Phil certainly enjoys a tough game in the centres, but is more than
capable of defending his "white cliffs of dover" with cover defence
that spans the park. No games in 2010, following the family around like Scraffy methinks.
Favourite meal: Pork pie and mushy peas
Favourite Song: London Calling - The Clash
Favourite movie: Anything with James Bond in it.
